Why is America getting so upset about the possibility of China devaluing its currency? Is it really that bad? Surely it will help countries that import goods from China?

Mercier asked:
Short-distance tour packages have become more attractive to Chinese people who are enjoying the first shortened May Day holiday since 1999.The May Day holiday was shortened this year from a week to three days.A Beijing-based online travel agency said most travelers from Beijing chose to visit cities or coastlines nearby rather than destinations across the country.
Meanwhile, many travel agencies complained that overseas journeys had not been as attractive as they were to May Day travelers in the past couple of years. “Travelers have more money, but they don’t have enough time in the May Day case,” one travel agent said.Rates of most overseas tour packages have been reduced by at least 15 percent compared with last year. But buyers dropped by one-third before the May Day started.
People are interested in trips to Hong Kong and Macau, which are near to the mainland, but were reluctant to buy tour packages to Southeast Asia or Europe, agents said.Statistics from the railway also supported the trend of short journeys.
China decided in 1999 to design two more holiday weeks on May Day and National Day, in addition to the Spring Festival holiday week, to spur domestic spending and offset the economic downturn triggered by the 1997 Asian financial crisis. The holidays, called “golden weeks,” immediately saw tides of tourists and rocketing sales earnings but also strained transport and other service capabilities, causing complains from holiday makers. The government decided to shorten the May Day holidays last year but added two other days to the national holiday package - Qingming, or tomb-sweeping day, in spring and Mid-Autumn Festival.

jasyc asked:
I am currently working in China for a large foreign company under an F visa. In light of the recent changes in Chinese visa laws, can I volunteer for a local Chinese company when my F visa is under a different company? I heard that even if you’re just volunteering and not receiving any compensation, your visa has to be with that company because of liability issues.

Gregory Smyth asked:
Asia has been known in the past as destination for travelers on a budget, looking for an exotic experience. But as there were no real luxury hotels and resorts in Asia, travelers looking for pampering and luxury in their holiday went to Europe or the Pacific islands. Nowadays, tourism employs over 250 million people in developing nations, and is the prime source of GDP income for many countries. Happily, now those looking for a luxury holiday in Asia can find one easily -it is simply a matter of deciding where to go in that wide and diverse continent! We look at what will be hot in 2008 in Asian travel.
China is a destination that cannot be overlooked for 2008. The Olympics will create an atmosphere of excitement, energy, hope and togetherness that is not often experienced while on holidays. Even recent natural events in China will not be able to dull the bright flame of the Olympic torch for globetrotters. There is a multitude of packages available, and in fact there have been over one hundred new hotel developments in China in the last four years, in anticipation of the Olympics. If you are looking for a luxury rest in Asia this year, a great place to start is China.
In many parts of the world, the weather is starting to nip at your ears a little when you go outside … leaves are curling and browning, and the world is looking a bit greyer. However many Asian destinations are just heating up for summer in the last half of 2008 -Thailand is one of them. Thailand boasts luxury hotels at a fraction of the price you would pay for such facilities in Europe or the Americas, and the service of local staff is second to none. Try local adventures like elephant rides or Tantric massage courses for a genuine Thai experience.
India is another destination that is exploding onto the world travel scene. The country’s economy is growing exponentially through the importance of information technology to the world today, and the number of luxury hotels and resorts is growing with it. India offers the beautiful sights that it has for hundreds of years, like the Taj Mahal, amazing wildlife, the Ganges, and refreshing tropical beaches. But in 2008, it also offers a standard of service which has not been equaled in the country’s past, as far as tourism is concerned. Hotels and resorts in India now offer luxury and lavish comfort as well as culture, beautiful scenery and delicious native cuisine!
A recent survey of holidaymakers found that Hong Kong was named by 74% as their most likely travel destination for this year. So what is it about this small nation that captures the imagination of so many? It is a comfortable destination for Western travelers -Cantonese and English are both primary languages of the nation. You will also find such Western artifacts as Catholic churches and theaters showing the latest Hollywood blockbuster. This has meant that Hong Kong was one of the first Asian travel destinations to explore the luxury market fully. You’ll find superb luxury hotels in Hong Kong, like the Shangri-La, the Four Seasons, or the Grand Hyatt. As a country which is used to providing sumptuous luxury for its guests, Hong Kong makes your Asian holiday experience a truly decadent one.
When you are looking for accommodation in this year’s hottest Asian countries for luxury travel, remember to check out the reviews on the web -you’ll soon find out the best places to stay for your luxury Asian holiday, where to go and what to see.

Since we already owe 10 Trillion, any money the government spends has to be borrowed from Europe or China. How much will we pay for the next 50 years for that rebate check? I would love just a guess from you.

Andy Adams asked:
Here in the UK we are probably the country with the most diverse culture, and whilst sometimes this comes in to the news for all the wrong reasons (immigration etc.) it does however mean that we have adopted a lot of the inbound culture which has become interwoven with our own culture too.
If you go down any high street today you are likely to find restaurants of all varieties; Italian, Indian and Chinese mainly but with some others becoming popular too such as Mexican, South African and Polish too. It is all very well us being able to try different cuisines in our own home town; it is one of the best things about eating in this country and our multicultural society, but wouldn’t you like to experience it in it’s home environment?
What could be better than being able to try the exotic cuisine direct from the source, going on holiday to India or Mexico would definitely get a more authentic taste of the culinary delights to be had. With India being a perfect example; you may get a curry in the frozen food section of your local supermarket but that’s nothing compared to the intense flavour and aromas of an authentic curry cooked whilst you’re on holiday in the country.
Holidays to India have increased in popularity twofold since UK residents have become enticed by the exotic east and the beautiful architecture such as the Taj Mahal, couple that with the amount of Indian descendants who actually live here in the UK and it means that flights and Holidays to India are relatively cheap due to the sheer amount of comings and goings.
If you don’t plan on going that far a field in search of excellent food then there are still some destinations that can offer authentic local cuisine as well as a whole host more to do on your holiday. Italy is a popular location for cheap holidays people have been taking to European cities in recent years, obviously home to Pizzas and almost any pasta dish.
Speaking from personal experience I can safely say that you’ll never order from the local pizza place once you’ve tried a traditional stone baked pizza with fresh toppings. That is probably the only down side of getting authentic versions of your favourite takeaways; you’ll always be disappointed when you go back to the takeaway versions back home!
But don’t despair; a lot of these dishes could be recreated by yourself in the comfort of your own home. Many people who go away on holidays to Spain and other locations will often observe the authentic recipes and techniques and try them when they return home. Obviously you won’t have the leaning tower of Pisa in the background but you can still savour the taste of your holiday.
With many locations in Europe having their own local cuisine typical to that region you could make the most of your holidays by taking a cheap last minute holiday to various cities on the continent and experiencing authentic foreign food at the source.
