Adam asked: The People’s Republic of China is listed at a population of 1.3 billion and a GDP of 7.9 trillion USD.
How does the outside world know that these numbers, or others like them, are accurate? There are certainly many reasons that a country may be motivated to tweak these figures.
Compared to other nations, the PRC is somewhat “closed” and opaque, with a relatively high level of secrecy. So how does the rest of the world know the level of validity and reliability of these statistics?

Richard N asked:
I am in the middle of my career and I’ve done work in China with a previous employer. I left that company to start my own tech start-up and now I am missing the culture and people I met while in China. I am starting to think about looking for an expatriate position in China with a multinational company. What are the opportunities that exist out there?

notadummyrat asked: We spend fortunes on the envirnment and reducing or “carbon foot print” which of course gets added to the price of our goods and they spend nothing.
The funding for many USA based envirnmental groups has been found to originate in China.
Recently scientist said that just a single large volcanic eruption can put more carbon in the atmosphere then mankind has in all of recorded history. Thousands of volcanos erupt every year. How can we think our small contribution to atmospheric carbon could effect anything?
Al Gore was the guy that told us about the Y2K bug. Saying “planes will fall from the sky”. The USA spent billions fixing this “problem” (adding to the cost of our goods) yet nothing happened even in countries that spent nothing.
Isn’t it time to see past the hype? They are praying on your fears and have been for years.

Rick C asked:
I mean they are a county of 1 billion plus. They had another quake that had a death toll of almost a million people. So could the weight of the earth under China be a cause of this past quake, and future quakes? I mean can it cause the major faults to do their thing and give way?
