China
Rick C asked:

I mean they are a county of 1 billion plus. They had another quake that had a death toll of almost a million people. So could the weight of the earth under China be a cause of this past quake, and future quakes? I mean can it cause the major faults to do their thing and give way?

  1. It is very doubtful that the weight of the population would have any effect at all, or influence on that kind of phenomenon.

  2. Actually one possibility involving weight, but not the weight of people, was investigated as part of the planning of the Three Gorge Dam project. By damming up the Yangtze River the accumulated weight of water behind the dam which sits on a fault, might be made more active.

but it’s only a theory, and didn’t get much credence, since they are building it anyway.

  3. It should be actually in reverse as per your concept.. Earth quake is caused by the release of force accumulated at the tectonic plate boundary. The full moon days and new moons days are more vulnerable days because the atmospheric pressure or the gravitational forces are reduced due to the straight alignment of planets. More the weight acting on earth surface will help to avoid the release of force from lithosphere.
