Gene H asked:
China limits the number of missionaries I know, and probably in part because christianity is a western religion, but is part of the reason because the christians pretend to want to teach English or doctor the poor or whatever but really only want to sell their product? It’s a good idea China has to limit the numbers but why let any of them in at all? Is that a deal they made with the US government? It is appealing that China perceives the hypocrisy and won’t allow much of it, either way.
Sure they’d SAY that. They SAY they go these places to teach English. Then they say doing good works don’t get you into heaven. So they are there to sell christianity like soap.

My friends were Christian missionaries and they did spend their time teaching English and helping sick people. They said if someone didn’t want to hear about Christianity, they wouldn’t push the subject any further.
Edit: True Christianity is 6000 years old which is much older than Dao or Confuscious.

no it limits them because it is not a free country
and is run as a dictatorship
i am not religious myself , so i dont go to church
but at least i have the right to if i want
as the saying goes ” i dont beleive in what you say but i would die to protect your right to say it ”
people tried it in tianiman square and they paid the price for trying free speech
all the best

China doesn’t need Christian missionaries. Chinese ppl have their own beliefs, Confucius and Dao, which are both older than Christianity.
btw, English teachers selling their religion is totally illegal in China.

No. China put limits on a lot of things, and I must say, not because of problem of these ‘things’.
Hypocrisy or not, Christian brings in love and equality, (at least this is what they said), is a threat to the Chinese government.
