I know my phone can make the international calls, its a matter of what numbers I am to dial. I am getting contradictory info.
And I am leaving soon so there is no time to switch.

This gets you from the US to China but China has it’s own kind of company
Verizon is CDMA technology, China works on GSM.
your best option is Mobal. No monthly service charges, one time payment fee, then pay for what you use. I have used my Mobal phone in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Fiji and all over South America. The per minute charges for calls are more expensive than buying an unlocked quad band phone and purchasing individual country SIM cards. But they are comparable to US cell carriers international roaming charges
Mobal has NO monthly charges. NO messing with SIM cards (which can be VERY frustrating if you are not tecn saavy). You always have an international cell phone available whenever you leave the USA. Just throw it in your suitcase for the next trip. The international plug package they send is worth the price alone. Every plug configuration in the world-used mine all over the world to charge cameras, laptops, video cams.

In any case (Verizon phone or another) you should dial: 00 + 1 + 3 digit US area code + 7 digit number.

All you have to do is to call 001 - (USA number) or you can use press your # sign on your phone twice to get the + sign and just do +1 (USA number) ..
However, if you’re planning more than just the occasional 3 minute call, you should get an IP card which you dial a prefix set of numbers before you call out. that would be a much cheaper solution.. (about 20cents USD per minute)
email me if you need more info when you’re here or something.. cheers!!
