to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties.

So nope not to keep the mexicans out!

No, silly!

It was made to keep the Mongols and other vicious tribes of the north at bay. Unfortunately, it didn’t work.

Each time, somebody bribed a gatekeeper.

oh? are you really that dense or just being quite foolish? maybe both? what are walls created for, anyway? to keep people in or out. in the case of china, to keep people out, like you!

To defend the enlightened Chinese against the barbarians hordes of the nothern tribes of Mongols, and to collect ($) tribute from those crossing in and out of china and to establish Chinas northern border.
