The Nationalists got their support from Nazi Germany (advisers) and the U. S. during the Second World War (1939-45) and after, until wiser minds in the U. S. government decided to discontinue the support for the useless dictator Chiang Kai-shek and his KMT.

The CCP had advisers from Russia, but nowhere near the support in arms and money that was given to the Nationalists. Since whole divisions were defecting to the Communists in the last months of the Civil War in 1949, the Communists could thank the Nationalists for supplying them with arms and material.
